How it ran
The format#
Kept because the unlock steps and the format are the same every time we do this.
When
August 9th 2021, 9:00pm Central. Cross world, low level and trial friendly.
Requirements
Level 15 Main Story Quest, the Golden Saucer unlocked, and Chocobo Racing unlocked. Both unlocks are covered below.
The format
One practice race, then the three tracks — Sagolii Road, Costa del Sol, Tranquil Paths — then a random fourth from those three. Points by position, totalled across the four.
Nobody could buy it
Every bird was synced down to the lowest-rated chocobo entered, so a heavily trained racer had no edge on the night. Still worth ranking yours up for later events.
Prizes
1st: FFXIV Complete Edition code or a 60-day game time card. 2nd: anything on the Mogstation worth $10 or less. 3rd: 200k gil. 4th: 50k gil. Trial accounts could enter; rewards other than the Complete Edition code were held until they graduated.
Unlocking chocobo racing#
Players must first complete one of the following main scenario quests: The Gridanian Envoy, The Ul'dahn Envoy, or The Lominsan Envoy. This is a level 15 main story quest that you will eventually complete, so everyone can unlock it quickly, trial accounts included. If your main story quest is not level 15 yet, you just have to keep going.
Then go to Ul'dah and accept the quest "It Could Happen" right outside of the main crystal. If you don't see the quest, you haven't done the envoy quest.
Once inside the Golden Saucer, you can find the lift to the chocobo racing NPCs within the circled area pictured here. Complete the tutorial and all quests until it lets you sign up for a real race — it might be worth practising by racing.
